Endodontics - Root Canals

With today’s modern dental techniques, having root canals done by a dentist is no longer a scary experience.  Dr. Basrai is very experienced in performing root canal therapy that lasts.

Endodontics is the practice of treating teeth at their roots by working with the living tissue (dental pulp) that lives inside the root canals.  Patients with severe decay, who have injury to teeth, who have previous dental work that has failed to protect teeth, or who are suffering from gum disease may need an experienced endodontist to “save teeth” through performance of a root canal or other endodontic strategy. 

Dr. Basrai practices endodontics when dealing with teeth that have infected dental pulp.  Signs of infected pulp include tooth, gum and facial pain and biting sensitivity.  The purpose of root canal therapy is to allow natural enamel to remain in place for functional and aesthetic reasons.   During a root canal, the infected pulp is gently extracted from the tooth, and the canal filled in with special material that is impervious to decay.  A filling is followed by a crown for maximum strength and protection.  Root canals surgery, referred to as microsurgery, is available for patients who require special attention.
