Common TMJ Symptoms

Migraines / Headaches
Patients who’ve never experienced migraines before may be scratching their heads wondering where these sudden painful headaches are coming from.  Migraine headaches are often caused when the jaw joints face abnormal stress due to an uneven or ill-functioning bite.  The tension put on the surrounding jaw joints and muscles is easily transported to the head and neck areas. 

Jaw pain/locking
Temporomandibular joint disorders are often diagnosed after patients complain of recurring jaw pain.  Jaw locking is a serious side effect that warrants immediate attention.  If you’ve experience frequent jaw soreness, schedule a neuromuscular consultation today.  Don’t wait until the jaw pain becomes unbearable.

Numbness in arms/fingers
Numbness in the arms and fingers has been linked to many cases of jaw joint problems.  Because the temporomandibular joints and surrounding muscles are intricately connected to the neck muscles, the neck and spinal nerves are at risk for muscle pinching and inhibition.
