Why is porcelain the material of choice for Dr. Basrai’s veneers?
Porcelain is chosen as the best material for veneers for several reasons.  One – it has the quality of translucency, meaning that it allows a certain amount of light to penetrate it and give it an almost luminous appearance.  Enamel also has the quality of translucency, and the use of porcelain helps the end result look more like natural teeth.  Secondly, porcelain can be easily matched to your tooth shade.  And lastly, porcelain, when bonded to natural enamel, becomes very strong and durable and allows patients to use veneered teeth as they would natural teeth.

Are porcelain veneers resistant to staining?
The surface of porcelain is very stain-resistant, and provides yet another reason why porcelain is the material of choice for veneers.  However, your veneers are not impervious to stains.  If you want to keep your veneers looking great, you are encouraged to limit your intake of tea, coffee, red wine and tobacco products. 

Why are porcelain veneers referred to as “instant orthodontics”?
Dr. Basrai may recommend veneers as a less invasive, less time-consuming and less-expensive alternative to braces.  Instead of waiting months or years for orthodontic devices to slowly move teeth into place, veneers allow you to simulate the look of perfectly straight teeth.  Porcelain veneers can be used to close tooth gaps and correct minor alignment problems.  Dr. Basrai will let you know if porcelain veneers can offer a suitable alternative to orthodontic treatment during your personal cosmetic dentistry consultation.
